Internationalization Italy-Brazil

Italian investments in Brazil are mainly concentrated in the processing industry (33.6%), in the information and telecommunications (28%), electricity and gas (14.9%) and financial sectors (9 ,2%).

On a commercial level, the trade between the two countries is expanding with an increase in imports from Italy of machinery and electrical equipment + 11% (packaging machines), chemical products (+3.8) followed by cars, trailers and semi-trailers and pharmaceuticals. The sectors of greatest growth for Italian exports concern textile products (+ 27.3%), electrical equipment (+ 16.3%) and metallurgy products (+ 14%), while exports from Brazil to Italy concern , on the other hand, raw materials and basic products, in particular paper and cellulose (+ 37.3%).

Relations between Italy and Brazil, of which economic cooperation represents an important axis, are going through a very positive phase. Some data help to better explain the importance of Brazil as a partner for our companies, both in terms of investments and trade.

Bilateral trade
The ICE / ISTAT data updated to September 2020 record a contraction of 18% in Italian exports to Brazil compared to the first nine months of 2019, which went from 2.95 to 2.42 billion euros. Similarly, Italian imports from Brazil fell by 7.5%, from 2.52 in the first three quarters to 2.33 billion euros. Positively, Italian exports of medicines and pharmaceutical preparations (Euro 221.9 million), food products (+ 2%, Euro 103 million), computers and electronics, optics and electro-medical products (+2 million) grow by 32.8% , 4%, Euro 94 million).

Italian entrepreneurial presence in Brazil

According to data published in April 2019 by the Brazilian Ministry of Economy, Italy has become the main investor among the countries that have signed a memorandum of understanding on investment facilitation (United States, China, Japan, France).
In June 2020, the Embassy surveyed 968 branches of Italian companies.
Italian companies have now acquired a leading role in this market in strategic sectors for the Brazilian economy, such as energy, telecommunications, steel, highways and automotive.
The same are concentrated in the State of Sao Paulo, in the north east (Pernambuco, Maranhão, Bahia) but also in the center (Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul).
