  • the 5th largest country in the world in terms both of size and population, with huge areas of productive farmland and natural mineral reserves as yet unexploited
  • high customs duties and stiff bureaucracy that are a severe obstacle to imports, making production in loco a much more effective option, through various forms of joint venture, or directly, with various logistic and fiscal incentives on offer
  • the pivotal economy for Latin America, making it easier to do business with all the surrounding countries and the economies of Latin America as a whole
